Appalachian Ski Mountain (celebrating a half-century in 2012!), Beech Mountain Resort, and Sugar Mountain Resort are the biggest ski resort cluster in the Mid-Atlantic and South. They total 240 acres of ski terrain—comparable to Snowshoe in West Virginia.

No problem! Try ice skating—all three High Country ski resorts have rinks. Or try tubing. Each Boone Area ski slope also has its own tubing and sledding facility. And Hawksnest Resort is a huge snow tubing center (plus one of the longest zipline courses in the East).
